Flashes of Hope - UNC

Last year I started volunteering with an awesome organization called Flashes of Hope. It's a non-profit "dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life threatening illnesses." The first time I shot with them was at Victory Junction gang camp and this year I got to help out again at the UNC Cancer Clinic in Chapel Hill. I wanted to show you some moments with the kids I got to spend the day with. They were an inspiring lively bunch and a lot of fun to be with. I also threw in a shot with my lovely co-volunteers who are also part-time Starbucks models! If you'd like to read more about Flashes of Hope or donate to their cause please check out their website.

Personal Project: Worth

From time to time I get to do personal concept shoots that I'm excited about. I've been toying with one for a few years now and finally got to work on it some. I've been pondering a lot about the view of women in our society, their struggles, and their fears. This first go is on women and worth. Here are a few shots from the first experiment. Any thoughts?

Restoration Runway: Portraits

In March I had the privilege of being a part of a local fashion show called Restoration Runway - Dignity By Design. As part of the show promotions I did some portraits of all of the models in the show just being themselves. It was a fun time and I got to meet some really interesting and cool ladies. I'll be posting more on the show itself too as I did the event photography for it as well (and the logo design and promotional design for some of the materials).

Vicki + William's Shreveport Wedding

Ceremony: Brown Chapel at Centenary - Shreveport, LA

Wow. This is going to be a DOOZY of a post! First off let me say this was one of THE most interesting weddings I've had the privilege of being a part of. My friends Will + Vicki got married in Shreveport, LA a few weeks ago and lots of interesting and fun things happened. It was 35 degrees when it is normally supposed to be 60ish (Vicki assured me it would be "warm in january in Louisiana". Thanks to Global Warming or whatever, it was not warm at all.) We all froze together! To top the evening off the hotel most of the guests were staying at flooded. Apparently pipes burst and filled the hotel from the top down. It ruined the entire hotel! A brand new Holiday Inn...ruined! While many of us were dancing and having a good time at the reception our hotel was filling with water. One room was said to have 4 feet of water inside!! I've included some photos I took when I arrived on the scene. The inside of the hotel was like a scene out of a zombie movie, water dripping from holes in the ceilings, no power, standing water on the floor... We were relocated to another Holiday Inn and it worked out okay in the end. All in all, it was a fun and memorable wedding. Enjoy!

Typically January through March is a slow time for us. It's cold out, people are stuffed from Christmas and New Year's dinner parties, and who wants to shoot pictures in the cold!? We do, of course! In celebration of the new year, we will be offering portrait sessions - senior, family or individuals, at no obligation, for FREE. The session costs you nothing. We'll come on location to shoot you either in a comfortable environment like your home or help arrange a place that fits your personality. Afterward you can view your images on your very own proof site. You'll then have 3 months to view the images and purchase any prints you might like!

Feel free to pass this offer along to your friends and family. For everyone that has us do their portrait that mentions your name, we'll give you a FREE 8x10 print from your session.

Alexa + Jonathan's Wedding

Ceremony + Reception: Alexa's Parents Home - Oak Ridge, NC

Rain. Fellow photographers. Huge families. First Kisses. This wedding started with rain and ended with a LOT of rain! It's always a challenge to shoot in harsh weather and this was no exception. Thankfully Alexa had planned ahead with a large tent at her parent's home. We did the entire wedding underneath it and it kept everyone dry (except for our feet as there was 3 inches of water under the whole tent!) Alexa and Jonathan were great to work with and as usual, I had a lot of fun. Alexa is a fellow wedding photographer here in town so it was a great privilege to be asked to photograph her wedding. It was also cool to see her family of 10 siblings! But the biggest privilege of the day was to be able to witness not only the wedding of two people in love, but two people who had NEVER kissed before! They wanted it to be such a big moment they held off kissing until after their vows. Alexa was so excited she was hysterical (see photo below).

Congrats to a great couple and thanks for letting me be a part of such a cool day. Hope you enjoy.
